BIMobject AB and Svenskt Trä in strategic collaboration for environmental product declarations

BIMobject AB and Svenskt Trä are initiating a long-term collaboration to facilitate the wood industry's development of third-party reviewed environmental product declarations (EPDs). With the help of BIMobject's software EandoX, Svenskt Trä's member companies can better meet the increasing demand for environmental and climate data and be prepared for upcoming legal requirements such as the EU's new Construction Products Regulation (CPR-2024) and the so-called digital product passport (DPP).

The strategic collaboration between BIMobject AB and Svenskt Trä aims to help the industry association's member companies – primarily sawmills and producers of refined wood products – to develop quality-assured and cost-effective EPDs. The collaboration means that EandoX will become a framework agreement supplier for the industry organization, enabling members to meet customer needs for climate data in procurements, building certifications, and current and upcoming legal requirements such as the Climate Declaration and requirements for reporting life-cycle GWP (global warming potential) through the EU's EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive). An important part of the collaboration is based on EandoX's ability to enable efficient and quality-assured collection of sustainability data.

"With this collaboration, we are taking another step in the company's journey towards enabling scalable and efficient management of manufacturers' product data. EandoX offers the unique opportunity to allow subcontractors to share input data in the calculations. This improves data quality and the ability to manage changes and optimize over time," says Sofia Hylén, interim CEO of BIMobject AB.

For several years, Svenskt Trä has strived to create optimal market conditions, not least from environmental aspects for its member companies. Through the collaboration, the competitiveness of the members is intended to be further strengthened.

"Thanks to the new collaboration, more sawmills will be able to produce their own company-specific EPDs for which the climate impact is on average 25 percent lower compared to the generic data referred to by the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning. Our members today need to be able to respond with third-party reviewed environmental information that customers demand. The companies that produce EPDs are proactive and will be well prepared when the same environmental and climate information becomes a legal requirement," says Patrice Godonou, Head of Standardization at Svenskt Trä.
